AIKO signed the UN Women WEPs Statement of Support to promote gender equality and a sustainable future

Recently, AIKO announced that it has officially become a global signatory member of the UN Women’s “Women’s Empowerment Principles ” (WEPs), which aims to strive for gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, market competition and community life. As a signatory, AIKO promises to actively build a diversified and inclusive workplace culture that empowers women’s development.

The Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) are a set of principles for companies on how to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community.  It is a collaborative effort between UN Women and the UN Global Compact Network. It builds on and further develops the Calvert women’s principles. The development of the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) began in March 2009 and was  officially launched in March 2010, based on an international multi-stakeholder consultation.  

The Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), subtitled “Gender Equality Leads to Economic Development,” present business cases from around the world on how corporate behavior can contribute to gender equality and women’s empowerment.

  • Principle 1: Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality  
  • Principle 2: Treat all women and men fairly at work-respect and support human rights and nondiscrimination
  • Principle 3: Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women and men workers  
  • Principle 4: Promote education, training and professional development for women  
  • Principle 5: Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women  
  • Principle 6: Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy  
  • Principle 7: Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality

“We recognize that gender equality is the key to sustainable business development, support and apply to join the United Nations’ Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), and commit to continue to implement these seven principles, and continue to promote gender equality, senior leadership support, equal treatment, employee health and safety, education and training, supply chain and market practices, community initiatives and transparent reporting.” Chen Gang, chairman of AIKO, ?said, ?“We will continue to strive to ensure that every employee works in a fair and respectful environment, with special care and support for the development and well-being of female employees.”
